Introduction to China Import and Export Commodities Fair
China Export Commodities Fair, also known as Canton Fair, is held twice a year in Spring and Fall since it was launched in the Spring of 1957. It is China's largest trade fair of the highest level, of the most inclusive varieties and of the largest attendance and business turnover.
At its 101st session in April 2007, Canton Fair changed its name to China Import and Export Commodities Fair, and added import function. The opening ceremony of the international pavilion (import section) was held on opening day, April 15th, 2007. Leaders of relevant departments, provincial and municipal government, ambassadors, and consuls from various countries witnessed the historic moment together.
Statistics shows the total turnover of the 2008 103rd session reaches USD 38.23 billion, which hits a historical high with an increase of 2.1% over the last session in 2007. The trade volume of machines and electronic products reached USD 14.68 billion; light industry products reaches USD 12.14 billion; garment and textile reaches USD 3.31 and 2.78 billion.
The number of buyers from 210 plus countries and regions reaches 192,013 people. Regarding participating buyers, the top five countries and regions are Hong Kong, USA, Taiwan, Korea and India, whose numbers of buyers reaches 29,511; 13,322;10,213; 7413; 6,407 respectively. In terms of trade volume, the EU, the US and the Middle East rank the top 3. Their trade volumes are USD 12.09 billion, USD 5.41 billion and USD 4.25 billion respectively.
